We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the "1st ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Geo-Privacy and Data Utility for Smart Societies," held on November 13th, 2023, in the beautiful city of Hamburg, Germany. This groundbreaking event, organized by Professors Akira Uchiyama and Hamada Rizk, in conjunction with ACM SIGSPATIAL, marked a significant milestone in the intersection of geospatial data and privacy.
The workshop brought together researchers, practitioners, and experts from various domains, fostering an environment of learning and collaboration. We are proud to highlight that seven cutting-edge research papers were accepted and presented at the workshop. These papers showcased innovative approaches and findings, contributing substantially to the evolving field of geo-privacy.
A highlight of the workshop was the panel session chaired by Dr. Hamada Rizk, titled "Privacy, Fairness, and Explainability in the Age of AI." This session featured a panel of esteemed experts: Daniela Nicklas, Christine Bassem, Naoto Yanai, Mubarak Abdu-Aguye, and Xiaochuan Gou. Their discussions delved deep into the critical issues at the nexus of AI, privacy, and ethics, providing diverse and insightful perspectives. The panelists' rich experiences and profound knowledge in their respective fields significantly enriched our discussions, sparking thought-provoking dialogue among attendees.
